Heart-Shaped Dark Volcanic Stone Mortar with Pestle

This mortar is carved from dark, porous volcanic stone in the shape of a heart. A short stone pestle sits beside it. It is used to grind spices, herbs and sauces by hand, and its rough surface helps crush the ingredients.
